Interesting night at work...

So I had two very interesting experiences at work last night the first happened when we had a patient come in by ambulance who was on a spinal board and neck brace because he had fallen while in the shower. He was not my patient but the doctor called me in to help turn him to remove the board while keeping the neck and back stable, we did all that and as I turned him back over I recognized the man, and did a double take on his wife. Sure enough he is the Sunday school teacher in my family ward, here in Tucson! A very loud boisterous man that I absolutely love... Well after a CT we found out he broke his neck, vertebrae C-5 through T-1, he actually completely inverted all 4 vertebrae. He also has a spinal/cranial hematoma (bleeding on the spine and brain) from the impact! He was rushed to surgery (which will take 6 hours) I hope he is all right! Pray for him please! It was very interesting to have someone there is such serious shape someone I knew, someone I could call my Bishop at 3 in the morning for a blessing for! And yet there he was still talking and laughing but unable to move! I was amazed by the peace and calm even I had after he got the blessing! Really I love the gospel!
Okay so my second story is the really winner for the night... we had this girl come in that was miscarrying, she didn't know how far along she was and to put it nicely she looked like she has used drugs a time or two. Well after being there for a while she said she had to go to the bathroom, sure enough she passed the entire fetus! Okay so I have never seen the product of a miscarriage at any point of viable time during a pregnancy most are very early on and several pass the fetus at home, but this girl was at least 18-20 weeks along, or 4-5 months, and the fetus came out fully intact! Like placenta, umbilical cord, the works. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen, The sac was still intact and it was just floating in the fluid, you could see each little finger and each little toe. You could see its eyes, you could see it was female, you could see its ears and eyes, it was this tinny tiny thing but so intricate, you could see the one vein and two arteries inside the umbilical cord wow! Really it was a wow experience... it was truly amazing only God could make something so beautiful!
I wanted to take a picture (how wrong is that!), but that would be breaking so many laws and so many ethical views so this one I found on line will have to do! It is actually very accurate to what I saw!

What the Nikki Sue????

So just now I was on the phone with my mother. We were talking Hayley Marie Sanders, cause the baby announcement was in the San Pedro Paper this week. My mother saw the picture and knew who it was right away! So she was telling me that she loves the name (points for Adrian and Dustin! hahaha) Anyways we got to talking about how is she had twins my mom would have named then Hailey and Bayley (Bailey if a girl). The topic led to us talking about why she picked the names she did and I have heard the story before but I learned something new tonight!
She has always said she wanted names that were not popular (to bad she picked popular ones without knowing it, lol) So my brother was supposed to be a girl and he was going to be Danielle! if he was a boy she originally picked out Christopher, and she wanted to nick name him "Topper", but they told her he was a girl... then my aunt named my cousin Christopher 7 days before he was born and when he ended but being a boy not a girl they went with Matthew! Wierd! I was always a girl and I was always going to be Nicole Suzanne! They didn't know any Nicole at the time and "Suzanne just fit" according to my mother!
So that is all stuff I knew what I didn't know was My mom wanted me to be nick named Nikki Sue! She said she always wanted a "little country-girl" name! What? Hello I have never heard this! Nikki Sue? hahahaha.... She said I was supposed to be a little girly-girl and it would have been the perfect name! Little did she know, that as soon as I came out she would say, "this baby is not a Nikki!" I have never once been a Nikki, So Nikki flew out the window and Sue did too, cause Nicole Sue just is not the same! Then when I was 6 months old someone called me Collie and it kinda stuck...... and to her dismay I am so not the girly-girl my mother wanted. lol!
Honest who would have ever known.... Nikki Sue!

I survived and so did everyone else! :)

So I just got off of work.... yep just finished my very first 7p-7a shift and I was all alone! Its amazing how tired I am but yet I am feeling rather excited! I made it through... everyone kept saying, "wow! you did it and look at you no panic, no tears, just calm and collected!" hahaa me calm, Right! NOT!
Really It was not bad at all. I did walk in to a big huge mess at the start of shift, they got hit really hard yesterday and the nurse I took report from is very unorganized and frantic! It was not a good start but I had great tech help (thanks Toto and Brian"p.s. Kendle cause I know you are reading this and they wont ever be.... haha..... Brian is a Really hot Medic!.... wink wink") and lots of other people were checking on me when ever they could! But actually I didn't need a lot of help and for a while I was caught up so I could go ask them if they needed help! Sweet!
I totally almost fell asleep around 5 but kinda got a second wind around 6.... perfect timing I got an ambulance at 6:30 and then gave report at 7:15.... All in all it was an okay night! I am just glad it was a "first" cause that means it would ever be the same again! haha
But now I'm going to bed.....

This Ones For you Babe!... I mean Kendle! hahaha

Okay so I made this blog forever ago but I have been promising Kendle I would actually get on and make a post and never have! So tonight as I sit here not sleeping, I am finally posting!

It's official.... I am now 100% my own nurse! lol About time I know, but really i finished my last night of training tonight so the next shift I work is on my own license! I am really excited actually but a little scared also! The best part was Holly my preceptor bought me a cake and wrote "Good Luck Nicole" on it... (it was a way yummy cake) but it was so nice of her to do that! I am not really sure it is a custom to do that either! I mean I understand we don't have tons and tons of new grads but there have been two others in the last four months come out on there own and neither of them got cakes and everyone tonight didn't quite understand why the cake was there so I'm feeling special in the fact that she would actually do that for me! Oh man I think she is my favorite! I learned so much from her and we have had some great times! (like to night we were laughing so hard a patient actually got up and left the hospital because she was going to have a "mental break down" patients own words. Because we were not taking our work serious enough! "people are really sick here and all you are doing is telling stories and enjoying your jobs") now for real that is not funny, people are sick and we felt bad that she left and that we made her upset, we could get into big trouble for that! However the situation at the time was so funny! :) lol it happens and at least we were not laughing at her right! Yeah the last seven months have been fun! I will miss having Holly at my side all the time! Thanks Holly!
